Maxwelton offers a high standard of spacious self catering accommodation, combined with breathtaking sea views, Maxwelton is the perfect peaceful retreat to relax, unwind and explore the stunning Exmoor coastline and countryside by car, bicycle, horse, landrover safari, or on foot. The South West Coast Path and Coleridge Way are all on our doorstep.

For those wanting to get away from it all our large south facing garden with sheltered patio and sun terrace captures the sun from dawn through to dusk and is a haven of peace and tranquility where one can quietly sit and listen to birdsong whilst the sun goes down.

Maxwelton is situated in a peaceful location in Porlock but is only a couple of minutes walk from the historic Ship Inn and Porlock village centre.

Because the property is built on a hillside the living accommodation is upstairs.

Maxwelton sleeps 1- 6 guests plus travel cot if required. Bracken, which on the ground floor of the property, is also available where families and friends wish for an additional 4th bedroom, perfect for a generation vacation, with either grandparents or teenagers having their own space in the ground floor apartment with interlinking door being unlocked to open the whole house into one large holiday home listed as Exmoor Holidays

Please note that we give priority to letting the whole house out as a 4 bedroom house under the name of Exmoor Holidays, so during high season our availability calendar for Maxwelton is marked as unavailable unless we have late availability.

Maxwelton’s accommodation comprises:-

Bedroom 1:
The largest bedroom with beautiful garden views, super king size bed, wardrobe, dressing table, bedside drawers

Bedroom 2:

Comfortable 4 poster double bed, wonderful sea views, wardrobe, dressing table, bedside drawers, en-suite toilet with wash basin

Bedroom 3:
Twin bedded room (2 single beds which can be combined to make a super king bed on request), under bed drawers, wardrobe, bedside drawers, TV/DVD player.

Spacious lounge/dining room:
Enjoy magnificent views across the Porlock Bay, Hurlstone Point and across the sea to Wales.. Our log burning stove enhances the romantic atmosphere and ambience during darker evenings and adds a warming glow during winter months. Comfortable leather lounge furniture. Dining table and chairs to seat 8 guests. Smart TV/DVD player. Book library and board games. Patio doors give views to patio, barbecue area and our secure private garden. There is a piano in the lounge, however if guests are staying in Bracken Apartment the piano is locked so that they are not disturbed by music. For parties renting the whole house the piano is unlocked and available for your pleasure, perfect for Christmas festivities and sing-a-longs.

Kitchen:
Fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, breakfast bar seating two, plenty of work surfaces. Wonderful sea and garden views. (NB following careful consideration the rayburn in the kitchen has been turned off to safeguard small children burning themselves).

Lobby (immediately off the kitchen)
Contains washing machine/tumble drier; dishwasher; large fridge/freezer

Bathroom:
Contains bath, shower, wc and wash-hand basin.

W.C.
Additional toilet with wash hand basin are located at the bottom of the stairs.

Maxwelton’s large private enclosed garden:

Our sheltered, secluded patio is a real sun trap – make sure you bring sun tan lotion! Comfortable Kettler patio furniture.
Sun terrace with table and seating for 2 at the top of the garden from which there are stunning views over Porlock Bay and Hurlstone Point, on a clear day you can see across to Wales – a lovely place for couples to sit and share a bottle of wine whilst watching the sun go down.
Peace – sit quietly and listen to the bird song! A recent visitor commented that the garden was so quiet they could hear a pin drop!
Barbecue
A small gate has been installed to keep dogs and small children contained within the patio area when required.
For guests who enjoy cooking a herb garden has been planted next to the patio for your use. Herbs currently available: chives, mint, rosemary and fennel.

Dogs:
Well behaved dogs may be accepted by prior arrangement in Maxwelton providing terms and conditions regarding dogs within the property are agreed to. Cost per dog £25 for 1 dog, £35 for 2 dogs per stay. Please read terms and conditions re dogs staying in Maxwelton.

Smoking:
Maxwelton operates a “No Smoking” policy within the accommodation. Smoking is permissible within the garden providing you are responsible with cigarette buts and use the ash trays provided. Please do not smoke near windows or doors.
