Options

Exmoor Holidays is a large house situated in a quiet lane behind the Ship Inn at the bottom of Porlock Hill, close to Porlock village centre.  Having been my mother’s home for over 25 years we have many happy memories of enjoyable times spent here and have furnished the accommodation to a high standard to make it a comfortable and homely environment for the comfort of our guests as well as for our own enjoyment as we love to stay here ourselves.

The house has been divided into 2 self-contained but interlinked units offering flexibility and a choice of options to guests:

Option 1:  Maxwelton + Bracken (sleeping 1-8 people + travel cot if required)

Rent Maxwelton and Bracken together with interlinking doors unlocked so the house becomes one large 4 bedroom property.

Large families and groups of friends frequently rent Maxwelton and Bracken Apartment at the same time when the interlinking door is unlocked and the house becomes one unit accommodating 8 people plus travel cot, perfect for Christmas, New Year, Easter, and family holidays and celebrations.  This has proved to be extremely popular especially when 3 generations of family wish to holiday together but also retain their own space.  This option has also been popular for universities bringing students to Exmoor for archeological expeditions, or for groups of friends holidaying together.

My childhood piano has been left in Maxwelton because it is a wonderful feature for people to enjoy, especially during Christmas celebrations and children love to play.  Regretfully it is only available for use when both Bracken and Maxwelton are rented together as one house and is locked at other times to safeguard guests staying in Bracken from being disturbed by piano music.

Because the property is built on a hillside the living accommodation for Bracken is on the ground floor and Maxwelton is accessed via a flight of stairs.  The garden and patio for Maxwelton are at the rear of the the property, and accessed via the kitchen.  Bracken’s garden is to the right had side of the property.

Option 1 includes 2 car parking spaces and free Wifi as well as welcome pack, electricity, heating, bed linen and towels.

The guests sleeping in Bracken have the advantage of being able to share the additional features available in Maxwelton (see option 2 for details).

Option 2:  Maxwelton (sleeping 1-6 guests + travel cot if required)

Maxwelton is a 4 star spacious 3 bedroom house with large peaceful private garden and benefits from the additional features of:

  • Sun terrace

  • Super-king size bed
  • Four poster bed with en-suite toilet
  • Twin zip and link beds which can be converted to super-king bed on request

Romantic Breaks

Couples regularly hire Maxwelton for romantic breaks.  Contact us to enquire about discounted rates offered when only 2 people stay in Maxwelton.

Option 3:  Bracken Apartment (sleeps 1-2 guests)

Bracken is 4 star self-contained 1 bedroom ground floor apartment sleeping 1-2 people with its own private garden.  There are sea views from the garden.  The settee in the lounge is a sofa bed which can be converted to a second bed on request.

Option 3 includes 1 car parking space, free Wifi as well as welcome pack, electricity, heating, bed linen and towels.

Maxwelton and Bracken operate a “No Smoking” policy.  Smoking is permitted in the garden – please use ash trays provided.
